Xiaomi
just introduced a second smartphone in the Redmi Note 7 series. Launched
minutes ago on stage in India, the new Redmi Note 7 Pro packs a Snapdragon 675
processor, USB-C, new colors, and other improvements.
The
Redmi Note 7 Pro looks very similar to the Redmi Note 7; the phone is available
in Space Black, Nebula Red, and Neptune Blue, and all three feature subtle
gradient finishes. One welcome outward change is the use of a USB-C connector
for the first time.
Inside,
the Snapdragon 660 from the Redmi Note 7 has been replaced with a beefier
Snapdragon 675, featuring the Kryo 460 processor. The processor is coupled with
up to 6GB of RAM and up to 128GB of storage, which is a first for the Redmi
Note family.
Out
of the box, the Redmi Note 7 Pro will be running MIUI 10, based on Android 9
Pie.
The
phone supports Quick Charge 4 and is compatible with chargers that
output up to 18W. However, the device is bundled with a 10W charger in the
retail box. The battery capacity remains unchanged at 4,000mAh.
The
highlight of this phone is the same massive 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor we’ve
seen on the Redmi Note 7 and other recent devices. Using pixel binning, this
sensor combines images from four adjacent pixels into one, capturing more
information about the scene. This setup enables the Redmi Note 7 Pro to take
improved low-light pictures and achieve great zoom.
The
Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro with 4GB of RAM and 64GB ROM will cost 13,999 rupees
(~$196). The variant with 6GB RAM and 128GB ROM will cost 16,999 rupees
(~$238). That compares very favorable with competing devices like the Honor
View 20 or the Samsung Galaxy M20.
The
Redmi Note 7 Pro will start selling on March 13 at 12PM IST on Mi.com, Mi Home,
and Flipkart, with availability set to expand to more retailers soon.
